Nowadays, postdoctoral research fellow at the Research centre for Forestry and Wood of the Council for agricultural research and economics in Arezzo, Italy. I’m working on SPIRIT project aimed at using Terrestrial Laser Scanner data for wood volume estimation, taper equation development, phenological analysis in plantation of cherries and walnut. Previously, postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Biometeorology of the Italian National Research Council in Firenze, Italy. I was, and I’m still, working on my UAV4PRECIFOR project aimed at developing a UAV-borne LiDAR system for forest inventory applications. My main research field is remote sensing for forest resources monitoring and management, and Geomatics for natural resources assessment. I’m is member of the core-group of the Community of Practice on Forest Management Decision Support Systems. I’m now participating at the COST Actions CLIMO CA15226 and OPTIMISE ES1309. I have participated at the COST Action FORSYS FP 0804. During the life time of the FORSYS COST I carried on a Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) at the Institute of Silviculture of the Department of Forest and Soil Sciences (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria) in collaboration with Harald Vacick. The STSM was aimed at identify relevant knowledge management tools according to their use in forest management as integrated component of Decision Support System (DSS), or within organizations or supporting participatory planning. I have also carried out a STSM at the Pacific Northwest Research Station, USDA Forest Service (Portland, OR, USA) in collaboration with Sean Gordon. During my STSM I investigate the use of the EMDS and VDDT DSS systems within the US Forest Service.
