Postdoctoral Fellowship at ZEF

The Center for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn, Germany (www.zef.de) is asking for applications for a full time fixed term position for 1yr as Postdoctoral Fellow working in agroforestry research in Central Asia. The project investigates the role of afforestation for rehabilitation of degraded (salinized) irrigated croplands. (for more information check out http://www.zef.de/index.php?id=2321&project=14&contact=530&cHash=9435d72...)

Job Description:
The candidate is expected to conduct dynamic, process-based modeling analyses for simulating and predicting tree biomass growth and (ground)water use, as well as soil salt, nitrogen and carbon dynamics in afforestation system at field or catchment scale. The work is envisaged in a close collaboration with colleagues engaged in experimental forestry trials on saline cropland and in cropping systems modeling. Model calibration and validation takes advantage of data collected
previously and additional data to be gathered during the project period.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree and skill set of relevance to process-based, dynamic modeling and (agro)forestry research, advanced writing skills for scientific publishing in English, and strong team work orientation. Programming skills are desirable. Previous modeling experience specific to the analyses of tree growth in irrigated, shallow-groundwater environment
affected by salinity is of a great advantage.

To Apply:

Applications to include (i) a covering letter outlining your research experience and
motivations briefly, (ii) a full C.V. (please also list publications, scientific presentations and analytical and programming skills) and (iii) the email and telephone contact details for 3 references should be sent via e-mail to:
Asia Khamzina; e-mail: asia.khamzina@uni-bonn.de
