IUFRO World Congress
The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) organizes its 24th IUFRO World Congress in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA in October 5-11, 2014. The congress is open to all individuals and organizations dedicated to forests, forest products, and related disciplines. The congress will provide attendees the opportunity to share knowledge and build relationships with colleagues from around the world on the topic "Sustaining Forests, Sustaining People: The Role of Research".
Outstanding speakers representing research, policy, and practice will present and discuss the latest research results and innovations on various themes, such as Forests for People, Forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, Forests and Climate Change, Forest and Water Interactions, Forest Biomass and Bioenergy, Forests and Forest Products for a Greener Future, and Forest Health in a Changing World. The scientific program will include a number of plenary, sub-plenary, technical, and poster sessions. The Community of Practice on Forest Management Decision Suupport Systems will organize the session "Providing Ecosystem Services under Climate Change - Community of Practice of Forest Decision Support Systems" at the congress as well. The session will explore how Decision Support Systems (DSS) are currently designed and applied for a sustained provision of ecosystem services under climate change, including overviews on models, methods, techniques and frameworks; case studies on ill-structured decision problems will focus on development and evaluation of alternative management options, projecting the consequences of different courses of action and support understanding of environmental issues.
