Successful Meeting of the CoP in Lisbon

Last week a larger number of experts gathered in Lisbon for the first ForestDSS Workshop. There were several oral and poster presentations given on the development and use of Decision Support Systems (DSS) in forest management planning. The ForestDSS Community of Practice had the chance to present and discuss their workplans for next year.

The workshop aimed at disseminating DSS among researchers, developers and users of computerized tools to support forest management planning. It included computer labs to demonstrate the use of different DSSs. There was the possibility to explore the usability, performance and handling of eight different DSS including the Heureka System, the MOTIVE AFM toolbox, the GISCAME system, the SADfLOR toolbox, the Integrated Planning for Timberland Management IPTIM software, the LTD landscape optimzation model, the Elephas VSonCloud and the Wood Delivery System. Through interactive discussions and practical workshops the participants were exposed to the interdisciplinary nature of developing DSS for forest management.
