See cases "Brazil: Short rotation eucalyptus pulp wood plantations" and "Brazil: Sustainable natural forest management; rainforest in the Amazon basin" for the description of individual management tasks that the company was combining in its operation.

Observations:

  • Not trivial to match the two from the DSS point of view; the company wanted to have a single system to handle the operational planning of both simultaneously
    • Looked into offerings on domestic market (my interpretation: because of operational specifics of the short rotation system?), those very much focused on the short rotation plantation
  • Significant adaptation effort by the supplier to change the system so that it could handle the _operational_ aspects of both systems: six months so far, not yet ready, at least limited success though with some creative solutions
  • What about initial investment decision (Excel only?) (check)
  • What about long term planning? (check)
